Avalanche Summary

Steep wind-drifted slopes facing north to east to southeast are the lingering places where you can trigger a dangerous slide. Look for smooth or rounded surfaces below ridges or overhanging cornices as prime places to find this problem. You can greatly reduce your chances of tangling with an avalanche by sticking to lower-angle slopes or wind-sheltered areas.
