Avalanche Summary

An Avalanche Watch is in effect for the Gore Range and Sawatch Range from Tuesday evening through Wednesday. Heavy snow and strong winds will result in easily triggered large avalanches. Avalanches will also release naturally. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended during this period.

For Tuesday, the avalanche danger will increase as snow accumulates. Avalanches will start small and grow as the day progresses. The most dangerous areas are wind-drifted northerly and easterly slopes near ridgetop. Avalanches in drifted snow can break widely. They can also be triggered from below or adjacent lower-angle slopes. Heed the warning signs of long-running shooting cracks, and rumbling, collapsing sounds. Choose low-angle slopes if you observe these obvious signs of instability.
