CM for 22/02/23 Localised weaker windslab on steep NE to SE aspects above 950m. Moderate Hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: Firm or hard scoured snow-ice in many wind exposed locations above 850m. Localised accumulations of soft marginally stabilised windslab anticipated on steep North-East to South-East aspects above 950m. Some early new cornice development possible over steeper lee slopes. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Rain overnight turning to snow showers in the early hours. Moderate to fresh West, later West-North-West winds. Freezing at 750m during the day. Observed Weather Influences: Rain at all levels overnight then dry. Freezing for a time early in the forecast period otherwise mild. ObservedSnowStability: Thawing, moist and well bonded snowpack. Patchy cover confined to locations above 850m; some ribbons of snow in burn beds and gullies at lower altitudes. Some residual old cornices remain over selected steep North-East to East aspects. The avalanche hazard is Low.
