Avalanche Activity

The fresh and older wind slabs represent the main danger.

The wind slabs can be released, especially by large additional loads,. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls in all aspects and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. Small to medium-sized avalanches are possible. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface.

Snowpack Structure

The snowpack is largely stable and its surface has a crust that is strong in many cases. The various wind slabs have bonded quite well with each other and the old snowpack. Stability tests and field observations confirm good snowpack stability. Faceted weak layers exist in the snowpack.

Tendency

Decrease in danger of gliding avalanches and moist snow slides as the temperature drops.
