Avalanche Activity

Faceted weak layers exist deep in the old snowpack on shady slopes.

Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist in the old snowpack on near-ridge shady slopes. Weak layers in the lower part of the snowpack can be released in very isolated cases by people here.

Snowpack Structure

The spring-like weather conditions gave rise to rapid settling of the snowpack over a wide area in particular on sunny slopes below approximately 2200 m. As a consequence of falling temperatures the snowpack consolidated during the last two days. Intermediate and high altitudes: The sometimes storm force wind has transported the fresh and old snow significantly. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. In all altitude zones only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.
