As temperatures rise above freezing this afternoon, the potential exists for a rider to trigger a wet loose avalanche on very steep south facing terrain. If traveling on steep, south facing terrain and you notice mushy snow and /or roller balls on the snow surface, it is time to move onto terrain less than 35 degrees in steepness.

    The most recent weather event that occurred Tuesday into Wednesday deposited little in the way of snow on the Blue mountains. The Blues saw mostly rain during this time period. Snow surfaces are firm this morning. By this afternoon, temperatures are forecasted to rise into the forties causing the snow surfaces to soften on south facing slopes. Although unlikely, the potential exists for a rider to trigger a wet loose avalanche on a south facing slope steeper than 35 degrees. Be aware of this potential problem when traveling this afternoon on steep south facing terrain.
