Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs represent the main danger.

As a consequence of new snow and a strong northwesterly wind, avalanche prone wind slabs formed in all aspects. They are to be avoided especially in steep terrain. Avalanches can be released, even by a single winter sport participant, but they will be small in most cases. The avalanche prone locations are clearly recognisable to the trained eye. The current avalanche situation calls for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger.

Snowpack Structure

In some localities up to 10 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen. The wind will be storm force in some cases. In some cases the various wind slabs have bonded still only poorly with the old snowpack. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted, especially on wind-protected shady slopes.

Tendency

The snowpack remains in some cases prone to triggering.
