The backcountry is transitioning, heavy wet snow on the uppers and draining (rain soaked) from mid-elevations. Wind-slab conditions in start zones. Combine this with wet unsupportive snow at mid/low elevations.
Soft and hard slab conditions have formed on slopes in the lee of strong NW winds. These conditions are specific to start zones. Rain below 1700. Remember, snow has fallen on to bare rock/tussock.

The front moved through yesterday with several pulses. One would arrive with rain the next one snow. Fluctuation in the freezing level obvious with heavy wet snow the result. Wind-slab conditions in start zones and around terrain features are possible. Rain on snow will continue again today. At lower elevations a rotten (isothermic) pack. Coverage is still thin, we are seeing a good base develop. Many hidden hazards sit just below a thin coverage. Fair to say backcountry observations have been limited for several days.
Snow showers continuing with the occasional heavy burst. Perhaps the odd glimpse of sun in-between rolling pulses. Gale NW winds, turn W late in the day. The freezing level around 1400 m.
Once frosts return we will see slick conditions develop.
