Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Localised areas of fresh unstable windslab will continue to develop with greatest accumulations on North through East to South-East aspects above 700 metres. Fragile cornices will develop above these aspects. The older snowpack will remain well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Showers, heaviest overnight, falling as snow above 300 metres overnight and 700 metres during the day. Very strong Westerly winds back slowly to the South through the period. Freezing level 400 metres overnight and 800 metres during the day. Observed Weather Influences: Showers fell as snow above around 400 metres. Moderate South-Westerly winds. Freezing level around 550 metres. ObservedSnowStability: The older snowpack has good stability with a firm surface crust above 500 metres. Isolated and shallow areas of poorly bonded windslab are present mainly on North to East aspects above 700 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
