Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs will form adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls.

The fresh wind slabs can be released even by a single winter sport participant in particular on northwest to north to northeast facing aspects above approximately 1600 m. Caution is to be exercised in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Mostly avalanches are small. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised in particular in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls.

Snowpack Structure

2 to 10 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen. 2 to 5 cm of snow will fall during the night. The fresh and older wind slabs are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack on shady slopes above approximately 1600 m. The old snowpack consists of faceted crystals; its surface is loosely bonded and consists of surface hoar and faceted crystals. The snowpack will be generally subject to considerable local variations. A little snow is lying in all altitude zones.

Tendency

Wind slabs require caution.
