Points saillants

Significant avalanche activity is unlikely on Tuesday.  Warm temperatures and sun may cause very shallow and small surface instabilities on the warmest slopes (think steep, sunny, and low elevation).  Continue to use safe travel techniques and don't forget to observe key changes in the snowpack as you move through different elevations or aspects.

Avalanche Discussion

Today I toured through Todd Ridge and up to Broken Top and Ball Butte.  Although I saw evidence of Light blowing snow, I couldn't find any signs of instability or avalanche problems.  Shallow Wind Slabs could exist on slopes that are most prone to wind loading.  Similarly, sunny skies and above freezing temperatures will melt the surface snow on Tuesday.  Given that we didn't see much in the way of Wet Loose avalanches last Saturday, and conditions won't be warmer tomorrow I'm forgoing forecasting a Wet Loose problem.  Backcountry travelers will likely see rollerballs on low elevation sunny slopes, but I don't expect significant avalanches.

4-5 cm. of new snow on Sunday afternoon and overnight helped refresh the slopes, particularly on sunnier slopes which had developed a thin melt-freeze crust.
