Forecast Snow Stability: The snowpack will thaw overnight. During the day it will slowly consolidate, becoming firmer above 800 metres as the day becomes colder. Stability will be good throughout. The avalanche hazard will be Low
Snowpack Structure
Forecast Weather Influences: Overnight the freezing level will rise above the summits before dropping to around 1100 meter by dawn then to 800 meters by evening. After some light snow turning to light rain overnight it will be a dry day. Winds will be mostly strong gale force West-North-Westerly. Observed Weather Influences: Storm force Westerly winds overnight eased and veered North-Westerly during the day. The freezing level was around 600 meters. After some light snow overnight it was a generally dry day. ObservedSnowStability: There is a dusting of widespread fresh snow mostly above 600 meters. Fresh accumulations are generally shallow but are deeper in a few wind sheltered locations on East to South aspects above 1000 meters. However, these are small, isolated and generally avoidable. The older snowpack is hard icy and stable. The avalanche hazard is Low.
