Forecast Snow Stability: The snowpack will firm up in the cooler conditions becoming more stable at all levels; However new snow and wind distribution will build windslab instabilities on East through South to South-West aspects above 800 metres. Steep wind sheltered terrain such as coire rims, ridge flanks, the tops of gullies and scarp slopes will be most affected. Cornices will develop on the same aspects. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Winds will remain fresh Northerly at first gaining some strength overnight, easing by the morning becoming light North-North-West by the end of the period. There will be moderate snow showers, heavier tomorrow. The freezing level will gradually lower from 900 metres to 500 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Winds were fresh South-Westerly, with occasional light drizzle showers. It was mainly clear with just some passing summit cloud. The freezing level was around 950 metres. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack has softened at all levels and is generally stable below 850 metres. Above this altitude on North through East to South-East aspects, there are some isolated windslab instabilities on wind sheltered steep terrain such as at the tops of gullies, scarp slopes, corrie rims and ridge flanks. Larger cornices have slumped slightly. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
