Points saillants

The general avalanche hazard is CONSIDERABLE. Three feet of new snow in the past week have created DANGEROUS slabs up to four feet deep or larger on a variety of aspects. These slabs could step down to deeper buried snow and run full path. Several large slides to six feet in depth were triggered yesterday in the Tetons. Today bigger triggers like the second or later person on a slope may initiate a slide.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )The next system will move into the region about noon Monday and continue until noon Tuesday. Mountain areas could see six to twelve inches of snow from the storm. Highs Monday will reach into the upper twenties and winds should be southwesterly to westerly 20 to 25 mph. AVALANCHE HAZARD FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS/CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND GREYS RIVER/SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREASThe general avalanche hazard will drop to CONSIDERABLE Monday as the new snow settles. Deeper, dangerous slab avalanches remain a concern but may require a stonger trigger than a single traveler. Backcountry users are advised to consult area specific forecasts issued every morning as new information may become available and unexpected weather can change conditions.
