Avalanche Summary

You will find dangerous avalanche conditions at upper elevations and in open areas that catch and hold wind-drifted snow. The most problematic slopes are easterly-facing. Strong winds continue on Sunday and will drift snow into cohesive slabs in open areas, below ridgelines, and on steep gully walls. These drifted slabs rest on a weak layer buried between two and four feet deep. You may not see any warning signs, such as cracking and collapsing, and multiple people can ride on a slope before someone finds a weak spot and triggers a large avalanche. Seek wind-sheltered slopes less than about 30 degrees for safer travel options.

With clear skies and warming temperatures, expect to see loose wet avalanches running on steep, sun-cooked slopes. Avoid traveling underneath these slopes, especially later in the day.
