Avalanche Summary

An Avalanche Watch is in effect for the West Elk and Elk Mountains. New snow and strong winds will create very dangerous avalanche conditions starting Thursday night and lasting through Saturday. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended during this time.

For Thursday, the most dangerous slopes are where you find wind-drifted snow on steep slopes just below ridgelines or in gullies or couloirs at upper elevations. Wind-sheltered slopes at lower elevations offer safer travel options.

Support these forecasts and avalanche education programming across Colorado by donating to Friends of CAIC. From now until February 14th, all donations will be matched up to $10k. Donate Now!
