Avalanche Summary

Higher elevation wind-drifted slopes facing north, northeast, and east are the most dangerous and likely places to trigger an avalanche. Any avalanche you trigger in the newly drifted snow could cause a failure in deeper weak layers, creating a much larger slide. Smooth rounded surfaces or stiff, hollow slabs below ridges or the sides of steep gullies are likely places to encounter these problems. Lower-angle, wind-sheltered slopes will provide safer riding options.
