Avalanche Summary

A Special Avalanche Advisory for much of Colorado. Heavy snow and strong winds dramatically changed avalanche conditions. You can easily trigger large, deadly avalanches throughout President’s Day weekend.

Dangerous avalanche conditions continue to dominate the region. With abundant snow and strong westerly winds, you can trigger avalanches large enough to kill you in many places. Use extra caution and create wide buffers to avoid steeper slopes and overhead hazards, especially in heavily wind-drifted terrain. Cracking or collapses are good warning signs, but avalanches may break unexpectedly or from a distance away from a slope. Lower-angle, wind-sheltered slopes are much safer options.
