Points saillants

Any wet loose avalanches on Friday will be small; however, even a small avalanche in consequential terrain can have bad outcomes. Use caution on steep sunny slopes as the day warms up.

    Friday will be another warm and sunny day. As the day heats up, steep, sunny slopes may see wet loose avalanche activity. Look for clues such as pinwheels, roller balls, and wet/slushy surface snow. This instability will be limited to where our most recent snow has fallen (the 1-2” we saw last weekend). The snowpack below the newer snow will not likely be affected by the warm temperatures. 

    If you start to find wet snow surfaces in exposed terrain, move to shadier slopes. Don't let your guard down with the "Low Danger" rating.

Avalanche Discussion

We currently have various snow surfaces in our terrain, such as crust on sunny slopes, wind-affected snow, scouring, and a few inches of older powder on protected north aspects. Another hazard to be mindful of on Friday are steep slopes with firm, icy surfaces. If traveling to this type of terrain, be sure to have the correct tools and skills to prevent any slips or falls.
