Points saillants

Above 8500 feet, dense slabs that were formed earlier in the week could be triggered by riders or skiers in steep wind loaded terrain. The chance also persists for snowmobilers to trigger dangerous hard slab avalanches in isolated areas. Avalanches are unlikely below 8500 feet today.

A slight possibility remains for large loads to trigger deep hard slabs in isolated areas where weak faceted snow persist near the base of the snowpack. These dangerous slabs could have depths to five feet.

Slab avalanches up to eighteen inches in depth could be triggered by riders or skiers in very steep terrain and cliff areas.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Periodic snow showers that could be mixed with rain at low elevations are expected on Saturday as the low pressure trough pushes moisture through the area. Temperatures are to be similar with lows in the teens and highs in the upper twenties at the high elevations. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate in the western region of Wyoming. Above 8500 feet, pockets of soft to dense wind slabs with depths to eighteen inches could be triggered in very steep terrain. In the Togwotee Pass area additional hazard exists with a slight chance for large triggers to initiate large hard slab avalanches deep in the snowpack.
