Avalanche Summary

Generally safe avalanche conditions exist. If you come across a wind-loaded slope with a smooth, wave-like appearance on the snow surface, typically above 12,000 feet, consider traveling around it. These high-elevation wind-loaded slopes are some of the few areas where you might be able to trigger a dangerous avalanche.
