Togwotee Pass
Danger d’avalanche
Points saillants
The general avalanche hazard for most areas west of and along the Continental Divide is LOW. In these locations strong east winds have formed isolated pockets of new soft surface slab up to one foot deep. These isolated pockets of slab lie upon slick old snow surfaces and present a hazard to those who venture into steep cliff areas and onto to steep slopes above terrain traps. The general avalanche hazard in the upper Green River Basin area is MODERATE where greater snowfall and strong winds have formed areas of soft slab up to two feet in depth. Use caution on steep slopes with significant accumulations of new snow.
Avalanche Discussion
( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )The second half of the storm to the east and south will continue to impact the Salt River, Wyoming and Gros Ventre Ranges. The heaviest snow will likely be over the Wyoming Range and Upper Green River Basin. The remaining areas are expected to be mostly cloudy with a chance of light snow. Mountain temperatures will remain in the single digits. Strong east winds should end and be replaced by a west to southwest flow. AVALANCHE HAZARD FOR THE TETON AREA:The general avalanche hazard is expected to remain LOW. North to northeast winds have formed isolated pockets of soft slab up to one foot in depth that are likely to be easily triggered by skiers. FOR THE TOGWOTEE PASS / CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND GREYS RIVER / SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW in the western and northern portions of these areas. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE in the eastern and southern portions of these areas where new snow and strong east winds are forming new soft surface slabs on slick old snow surfaces. Caution is advised on and beneath steep slopes with deep accumulations of new snow. Backcountry users are advised to consult area specific forecasts issued every morning as new information may become available and unexpected weather can change conditions.
