Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs require caution.

In particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls wind slabs formed. The sometimes avalanche-prone wind slabs will be covered with new snow and therefore difficult to recognise. Wind slabs can be released, even by a single winter sport participant, but they will be small in most cases. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in steep terrain and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. They are to be assessed with care and prudence. As a consequence of the moderate to strong wind individual natural avalanches are possible, but they will be mostly small.

Snowpack Structure

The strong wind has transported a lot of snow. As a consequence of the strong northwesterly wind, snow drift accumulations formed during the last few days. Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack at intermediate and high altitudes. In all aspects below approximately 2500 m less snow than usual is lying.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will increase. The wind will be moderate to strong. Some snow will fall.
