Forecast Snow Stability: The snowpack will continue to thaw and consolidate. Some wet snow instabilities will exist on North through East to South aspects above 900 metres. Cornices above these aspects will sag and be prone to collapse in the mild conditions. Below 900 metres stability will be better. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: The mild conditions will continue with the freezing level remaining above the summits throughout. There will be some overnight rain, followed by a generally dry day. Winds will be from the South. Observed Weather Influences: It was milder than of late with the freezing level hovering just above the highest summits. It was cloudy with some light drizzle from time to time. ObservedSnowStability: The surface of the snowpack has become wet but sub-surface layers remain cold and dry. Areas of moderately bonded windslab are present on North through East to South aspects above 800 metres. Some sizeable cornices exist above these aspects. Below 800 metres the snowpack tends to be more consolidated and stability is generally good. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
