Avalanche Activity

Wet snow requires caution.

As the day progresses the likelihood of wet avalanches being released will increase quickly. In the regions where the outgoing longwave radiation during the night is reduced the danger will increase earlier. Wet avalanches can in isolated cases be released by a single winter sport participant. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on very steep west, north and east facing slopes at elevated altitudes. Avalanches can in isolated cases release the saturated snowpack and reach medium size.

Snowpack Structure

During the night the weather will be partly cloudy in some regions. The snowpack is wet all the way through and its surface has a melt-freeze crust. The surface of the snowpack will soften quickly. In particular on steep sunny slopes as well as below approximately 1800 m only a little snow is now lying.

Tendency

The danger of wet avalanches will persist.
