Avalanche Activity

Increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation, in particular at low and intermediate altitudes.

Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to a loss of strength within the snowpack in some cases in particular on sunny slopes at low and intermediate altitudes. More mostly small moist and wet avalanches are possible, especially in steep rocky terrain. Weak layers in the old snowpack can be released especially by large additional loads. Caution is to be exercised in particular, and on very steep slopes at intermediate altitudes. Here the avalanches can be triggered in the old snow and reach medium size in some cases. In the morning, There is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface.

Snowpack Structure

The conditions are spring-like. Outgoing longwave radiation during the night will be quite good. The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust and will soften during the day. Intermediate and high altitudes: Weak layers exist in the snowpack especially on west, north and northeast facing slopes. In particular in the vicinity of peaks snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
