Points saillants

The transition to calm and fair weather is causing the avalanche danger to decrease, but locally unstable conditions will persist. Wind-drifted snow slabs at higher elevations from Wednesday and overnight into Thursday are expected to stabilize but may still be easily triggered in certain areas.

In south-facing slopes, where the sun has a strong impact during midday, a few small, naturally triggered wet loose snow avalanches are expected.

Maintain a safe distance from cornices in the high mountains, as these become unstable with rising temperatures or additional snow loading.

Overgang til rolig og pent vær gjør at skredfaren er avtakende, men det vil fortsatt være lokalt ustabile forhold. Fokksnøflak i høyden fra onsdag og natt til torsdag ventes å stabilisere seg, men kan fortsatt være lett å påvirke enkelte steder.

I sørvendte heng, der sola vil ta godt midt på dagen, ventes det å gå enkelte små naturlig utløste, våte løssnøskred.

Hold god avstand til skavler i høyfjellet. Disse blir ustabile med høye temperaturer eller pålagring av snø.

Det eldre kantkornlaget er enten nøytralisert eller ligger dypt under hard skare og bærende snø opp til ca. 1300 moh. Over denne høyde kan kantkorn i snødekket påvirkes enkelte steder. Eksempelvis i overganger mellom tynt og tykt snødekke. Mindre skred i fokksnø kan føre til at kantkorn dypere i snødekket kollapser. Skred som følge av kollaps i kantkornlag kan bli store.

Snowpack Structure

Tirsdag lå det rundt 10 cm nysnø i høyden tilgjengelig for vindtransport. Snøen var fuktig opp til ca. 1100-1200 moh. Vind fra vest de siste dagene har samlet snø i skavler i østvendte heng. Det er lite snø under 600 moh. Mildvær i midten av mars har trolig nøytralisert gamle vedvarende svake lag av kantkorn under ca. 1300 moh. Over denne høyden kan gamle vedvarende svake lag muligens påvirkes med stor tilleggsbelastning eller på tynt snødekke.

Be cautious in south-facing slopes when the sun starts to have a strong impact around midday. In these areas, a few naturally triggered wet loose snow avalanches may occur.

Older wind slabs at higher elevations are now expected to have stabilized. However, snow and wind later in the evening are expected to form fresh wind slabs, which may be easy to trigger. Avalanche danger is increasing.

The older faceted snow layer can still be triggered in some areas above 1300 meters, especially in transitions between thin and thick snow cover. Avalanches resulting from collapses in faceted layers can become large.
