Daytime increase in avalanche danger due to fresh snow and small snowdrifts

Fresh drifts are still trigger-prone at high altitude and on steep shady slopes. A small-to-medium slab and in steep terrain also loose-snow avalanche can be triggered by 1 person. Such danger zones will increase with ascending altitude. Snowdrift masses in steep terrain should be avoided. In backcountry terrain, a cautious route selection is imperative. On very steep and rocky slopes, slides and loose-snow avalanches can be expected during the course of the day due to solar radiation. Glide-snow avalanches can trigger at any time of day or night and grow to larger size.

Snowpack Structure

25-30 cm of fresh snow is expected at high altitudes by Wednesday evening, amid moderate winds, which will generate fresh small snowdrift accumulations, bonding well with the old snowpack surface. Older drifts will be blanketed. The old snowpack is compact and stable, at low and intermediate altitudes wet down to the ground.

Weather Forecast

Nocturnal hours: Gray skies, persistent rainfall/snowfall above 1000 m. In early morning the snowfall level will ascend to 1500 m.. Wednesday daytime: Cloudy, often heavy snowfall in the morning. In afternoon, the snowfall will taper off, clouds disperse from the west. At 2000 m: -4 to -1 degree. Light-to-moderate N/NW winds.

Tendency

Intermediate high-pressure front will make it very sunny, mild, with only light winds. Warmth and solar radiation will lead to moist slides and loose-snow avalanches. Avalanche danger levels are not expected to change significantly.
