Avalanche Summary

You can trigger a dangerous avalanche on north, northeast, and east-facing slopes at all elevations. The snowpack is thin in this area, and you can impact weak layers buried near the ground. Conditions will be more dangerous in near and above treeline areas where freshly wind-drifted snow now rests on top of the weak snow below. Assess the snowpack carefully before riding on steep slopes. Avoid areas where you see signs of recent wind drifting, such as fresh cornices, smooth pillows of snow, or a hard, sculpted snow surface. You will find safer conditions in wind-sheltered areas in places where the snowpack is more than about 5 feet deep.
