Avalanche Summary

The main concern is for wet avalanches near and below treeline in the afternoon hours. Most will be small, but some could grow large enough to bury you in a terrain trap. Others could gouge into wet snow closer to the ground, especially below about 12,000 feet. On west and northerly-facing aspects at higher elevations, there may still be dry snow in the middle of the snowpack. Avalanches can break wider and deeper in these spots.

You can avoid nearly all avalanches by starting and ending your day early before surface conditions deteriorate. If you see small wet avalanches running from steep rocky terrain, find the snow surface is no longer supportable and your sinking deeper than your boot tops into wet unconsolidated snow, it's time to find lower-angle terrain or to call it a day.
