Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs represent the main danger.

As a consequence of a strong wind from northwesterly directions, further wind slabs will form in the course of the day in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. The small quantity of fresh snow as well as the small wind slabs are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack on shady slopes. These can be released. The avalanches are small and can be released by a single winter sport participant. Caution is to be exercised at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 2 to 10 cm of snow fell on Thursday above approximately 2000 m. In all aspects snow depths vary greatly above approximately 2200 m, depending on the infuence of the wind. Below approximately 1900 m from a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying. On steep sunny slopes below approximately 2500 m a little snow is lying. The snowpack is not distinctly layered. Shady slopes: The snowpack consists of faceted crystals.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist.
