Problèmes avalancheux

  • Wind slab

    • Above 2,300 m
  • Wind slab

    • Below 2,300 m

Snowpack Structure

The wind was moderate to strong. The wind slabs are poorly bonded with the old snowpack above approximately 2400 m. Individual weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack in shady places that are protected from the wind, in particular at high altitude.

Avalanche Activity

Slab avalanches are the main danger.

The wind slabs are to be assessed critically. Avalanches can be released by small loads. More medium-sized to large slab avalanches are possible. This applies in particular above approximately 2400 m. In particular on steep shady slopes the avalanches can be released in deep layers of the snowpack and reach large size. Backcountry touring calls for careful route selection.
