Unstable slabs, two to three feet in depth, rest upon a base of weak, faceted snow on a variety of aspects at the upper elevations and on shaded aspects at the mid elevations. Yesterday, a snowboarder triggered an 18 inch soft slab on a north-facing slope in Chicken Scratch, north of Glory Bowl. The rider was caught, but not buried. Similar events are possible today on steep avalanche prone slopes. Evaluate the terrain and snow stability carefully. At the lower elevations avalanches are unlikely.

Skies are expected to remain overcast with a chance for some light snow. Temperatures will drop in the upper single digits overnight and only rise into the teens on Wednesday. Winds will remain light and back to the northwest. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE above an elevation of 8,000 feet. Areas of unstable snow exist. Humans who venture onto steep avalanche prone slopes could trigger slab avalanches one to three feet deep. These slabs could fail on approach due to the weight of a single skier or may fail after multiple passes by snow machines. Those who make bold terrain choices could incur severe consequences. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW below an elevation of 8,000 feet.
