Points saillants

In most terrain the snowpack is stable however low hazard does not mean no hazard exists. In isolated areas above 8000 feet, the chance continues to trigger slab avalanches where a layer of weak snow that was buried in mid January persists. Avalanches at lower elevations are not expected today.

Buried surface hoar persists in the snowpack six to eighteen inches below the old snow surface. In isolated areas where this weak snow is still preserved, skiers and riders might still be able to trigger these hard slabs. These rare areas of instability are more likely to be found on shaded terrain that has not been tracked.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Saturday looks to be partly cloudy and dry. Temperatures are to reach the upper twenties and winds are to be light. The general avalanche hazard in western Wyoming will remain Low, however slabs to one foot can still be triggered in isolated areas, particular in shaded terrain that has not seen tracks.
