Avalanche Summary

You can trigger a large and dangerous avalanche on many northwest through north to east-facing slopes, especially at upper elevations near and above treeline. The most dangerous slopes are wind-drifted avalanche paths where even any avalanche you trigger could step down to deeper weak layers and bring the entire season's snowpack down on top of you. Safer travel options exist on wind-sheltered slopes below treeline and on south-facing slopes in the morning before they get wet from the sun and produce small loose avalanches. You can always stick to low-angle slopes without steep slopes overhead to drastically reduce the chances of being caught in an avalanche.
