Avalanche Summary

The most dangerous areas are recently wind-drifted slopes facing north, northeast, and east. Here, snow is drifting onto deeper buried weak layers several feet below the snow surface. You might be able to travel across a slope several times before finding the trigger point, and bringing most of the season's snowpack down on top of you. Avoid traveling on or directly under steep, wind-drifted slopes that face northwest through north to east to reduce your chances of being caught in a potentially deadly avalanche.
