Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche from a distance and from below. The most dangerous slopes face north through east to south below ridgelines where winds drift snow into stiff slabs. These slabs will look rounded and smooth and may crack beneath you. If you trigger an avalanche in surface snow, it will likely break into deeper weak layers buried near the ground. Multiple people could ride a slope before you trigger a slide. Slopes less than about 30 degrees offer safer riding.
