Avalanche Summary

You could trigger an avalanche on north through east to south-facing slopes at upper elevations in the Front Range. The most dangerous slopes are where you find a smooth rounded snow surface or fresh cornices forming directly below ridgelines or on the sides of gullies. Northerly winds will drift snow on more southerly-facing slopes that rest on a melt-freeze crust, making triggering an avalanche here easier. Seek wind-sheltered slopes at lower elevations if you see cracking and collapsing in the new snow or the snow thickens and feels and sounds hollow underneath you.
