Avalanche Summary

You can trigger a dangerous avalanche on north through east to southeast-facing slopes where strong winds drifted slabs of stiff snow over soft, weak snow near the ground. Look for and avoid these drifts below ridgelines, sides of gullies, and steep rollovers. You can recognize dangerous areas by their smooth bulbous appearance, stiff feel, and hollow sound. For safer travel, you can steer around wind-drifted features and choose slopes less than about 30 degrees that are not connected to steeper and larger slopes.
