Avalanche Summary

An Avalanche Watch is in effect for the Park Range and Elkhead Mountains beginning Tuesday morning and lasting through Wednesday. Heavy snow and strong winds will overload a weak snowpack. Very dangerous avalanche conditions are expected

You can trigger a large and dangerous avalanche that breaks near the ground on northerly and easterly-facing slopes. You can trigger these avalanches from the bottom of a slope or from a distance away. The slides may break wider and run farther than you anticipate. You may not see warning signs like cracking and collapsing in advance. Choose slopes less than about 30 degrees in steepness for safer options, but avoid low-angle slopes with steep slopes above.
