Avalanche Summary

Snow surfaces are highly variable in wind-exposed terrain, and you can expect unpredictable feedback from the snowpack. Steer around stiffer wind-packed snow and seek out slopes with softer surfaces to avoid recently formed slabs. Steep northerly- and easterly-facing slopes are the most suspect, where an avalanche in motion might break deeply on buried weak layers.
