Points saillants

Conditions are generally safe. However, small, isolated avalanches on extreme terrain are still possible.

Avalanche Discussion

We've had nearly a week of continuous melt-freeze cycle, where the snow surface has warmed and become slushy during the day and refrozen at night. Many slopes in the Central Cascades are covered in roller balls or loose wet avalanche debris. On Friday and Saturday, very little avalanche activity was observed. This tells me that our loose wet avalanche cycle is winding down for now. On Saturday night, the snowpack will get another hard refreeze. Sunday will bring a mix of sun and clouds, with a daytime high of 40F.  Although loose wet avalanche activity is unlikely on Sunday, it is possible to trigger small, isolated loose wet avalanches on very steep slopes in the sun. If you venture into extreme terrain, continue to monitor signs of instability: wet, slushy snow that's more than ankle deep. If you're uncertain, choose lower angle terrain or slopes that aren't in the direct sun.
