Temperatures hovered just above freezing last night at many of our SNOTEL sites. A thin refreeze is possible this morning and a firm surface crust could quickly transition back to wet loose snow conditions today. Temperatures are expected to be well above freezing today creating a possibility of wet loose point release slides. A small amount of wet and loose snow with the right terrain configuration can create a much larger slide as the snow gathers momentum down the terrain. Snow in and around radiators like cliff bands or rocks can warm the snow quickly creating mushy wet loose snow. Rocky terrain on solar slopes is a common springtime trigger for wet loose problems. Stay vigilant in your normal backcountry protocols such as putting one person at a time on avalanche terrain to reduce your risk of exposure to the wet and loose snow conditions that are often present in the springtime.
