Minimal overnight refreeze and warm daytime temperatures are working in conjunction to create wet and saturated surface snow. The warm spring day's effect on the snowpack and has created conditions possible for human triggered avalanches. Steep slopes around rocks can heat up quickly and should be noted as potential trigger points. There has been plenty of evidence from recent roller balls and pinwheels that point to surface instability. Limit your chances of triggering an avalanche today by being cognizant of changing conditions as the day heats up. Avoid traveling on steep slopes during the heat of the day and use test slopes and visual clues to create mindful travel plans.
Roller balls or pinwheels and deep boot pen are clues to inform all backcountry users that wet, saturated snow is present and unstable. Test slopes may provide some level of information on stability. If you find these clues in the snowpack, look for alternate slopes.
