Points saillants

Storm snow and strong winds are creating touchy storm slabs that will continue to build through the day. Anticipate the danger to rise as the day progresses, with slabs becoming thicker and more reactive under the presence of strong winds. These slabs will be resting on a firm bed surface that will be easily triggered. Avoid riding in or below terrain that is steeper than 30 degrees this weekend.

    Weather forecasts predict an additional 8-12" to fall on Saturday under the presence of gusty west winds, which will cause slabs to become thicker and more dangerous as the day progresses. North and east aspects at tree line and above will be loaded by the winds, making those aspects at upper elevations particularly concerning. The surfaces under this new snow consist of sun crust on east, south and west aspects, northerly aspects are harboring weak sugary snow. These surfaces will bond poorly and create a firm plane that will produce natural and human triggered avalanches. The safest and best riding today will be in terrain that is  low angle and sheltered by trees.
