Wind and new snow will build wind slabs which may struggle to stick to a firm bed surface. Light east winds through mid-day will build wind slabs on western aspects. These wind slabs will likely be reactive to a human trigger due to the relatively low wind speeds and snow density, while lack of developed bed surfaces will work to limit the potential avalanche size.
When the wind shifts through the north and then northwest late in the day, watch out for significant snow loading in east facing ravines. Given the wind speeds, wind slabs up to 3 feet thick are possible at mid elevations. Light to moderate wind speeds in the forecast result in slabs that are sensitive to a human trigger, and may release naturally on developed bed surfaces. Wind loading at the ridgelines will be the big red flag to watch for. If views are obscured, look for signs of drifting snow around you as a clue to what’s happening overhead.
Low elevelation gullies in Crawfords Notch will likely see some amount of wind slabs building in gully tops especially on Mt Webster as the wind passes through the top of the compass.
