A few inches of new snow and strong westerly winds may be enough to form shallow slabs in leeward upper elevation terrain. Avalanche danger will be Low for most of the day and may rise to Moderate by the afternoon as the storm intensifies. Gather information as you travel and carefully evaluate how new and wind loaded snow bonds to variable old snow surfaces using hand pits and small test slopes. Fresh cornices, blowing snow, and lens-shaped pillows are indicators that wind slabs likely exist nearby. Steer away from slopes 35 degrees and steeper above treeline with obvious signs of wind loaded snow.
