Avalanche Activity

Weakly bonded old snow on wind-protected shady slopes. Fresh wind slabs as the day progresses. Gliding avalanches and moist snow slides in particular on very steep sunny slopes.

Shady slopes: The old wind slabs can still be released in some cases. They are poorly bonded with the old snowpack. In isolated cases the avalanches are medium-sized. The moderate wind will transport the loosely bonded old snow. In the course of the day further wind slabs will form in particular in gullies and bowls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. These are small but prone to triggering. As the day progresses the likelihood of gliding avalanches and wet snow slides being released will increase gradually on very steep sunny slopes. Medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large natural avalanches are possible. Backcountry touring and other off-piste activities call for meticulous route selection.

Snowpack Structure

Shady slopes: As a consequence of a moderate southerly wind, further wind slabs will form in the course of the day. The old wind slabs remain in some cases prone to triggering. In its middle, the snowpack is well consolidated. Very steep sunny slopes: Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to increasing moistening of the snowpack. At intermediate altitudes there are 150 to 250 cm of snow, and even more in some localities.

Tendency

Some snow will fall on Saturday. The weather will be cold. The danger of dry avalanches will increase a little during the day. The danger of moist avalanches will decrease.
