Points saillants

Warmer weather and rain increases the avalanche danger, mainly in the high mountains. Some wet avalanches may release, especially where new or wind‑deposited snow is now exposed to heat. In higher elevations, a weak layer of faceted crystals may still exist deeper in the snowpack and can be triggered. The distribution of this problem is uncertain. Loose‑snow avalanches or cornice failures in warm conditions can add significant load and trigger avalanches below. Keep a long distance from cornices, as warmth makes them more prone to collapse. In lower areas and the outer parts of the region, there is little or no snow and a low avalanche danger.

Varmere vær og regn øker snøskredfaren, mest i høyfjellet.

Skred vil løsne av seg selv særlig der det ligger nysnø eller fokksnø som nå får varme og regn.

I høyden kan det noen steder finnes svakt lag av kantkorn nede i snødekket som fortsatt kan påvirkes. Det er vanskelig å vite hvor problemet er. Løssnøskred eller skavler som knekker i varmen utgjør en stor belastning på snødekket og kan løse ut skred i henget under noen steder.

Hold lang avstand til skavler, varmen gjør at de knekker lettere.

I lavereliggende områder og ytre deler av regionen er det lite eller ingen snø og liten skredfare.

Snowpack Structure

Snødekket gjenspeiler en kald og snøfattig vinter. I høyden er det nå kommet ny snø med kraftig vind fra sør og sørvest. Det er lite eller ingen snø under 3-400 moh og i fjellet er snødekket tynt. Kantkorn som ble dannet under kuldeperioden tidligere i vinter er utsatt for varme og er i ferd med å avrundes opp til ca 1200 moh. Kantkorlag er likevel fortsatt løse og gjenkjennelige noen steder og kan fortsatt utgjøre et problem.

Tendency

Warm weather will lead to some natural avalanches.

It is difficult to assess how the snowpack will react to the warm temperatures. In some places it will stabilize quickly, but we cannot rule out that some large avalanches may release naturally, especially in areas with the most wind‑drifted snow after the last snowfall.

In the highest elevations, wind may form unstable wind slabs in leeward areas.

In higher inland parts of the region, weak layers of faceted crystals may still exist deep in the snowpack and can be triggered. It is hard to know exactly where this problem occurs. Loose‑snow avalanches or cornice breaks caused by the warmth can heavily load the snowpack and may trigger avalanches on slopes below.

In lower elevations and in the outer parts of the region, there is little or no snow and a low avalanche danger.
