Older snowdrift accumulations will get covered

Older snowdrift accumulations are often still trigger-prone, esp. by large additional loading. Such spots will be covered by fresh snow and made difficult to recognize. In addition, medium-sized avalanches can trigger from near-surface layers on north-facing slopes in isolated cases. Glide-snow avalanches can trigger at any time and reach medium size in zones where there is sufficient snow. Caution urged below glide cracks. In very steep terrain, mostly small loose-snow slides are possible.

The small amount of fresh snow is bonding well with the old snowpack. Older drifted masses lie deposited atop soft layers, esp. on shady high-altitude slopes, they will be covered during the day by fresh snow. On north-facing slopes there are weak near-surface layers on steep slopes which have persisted. Otherwise the old snowpack is mostly compact and stable. At low and intermediate altitudes it is thoroughly moist, wet at ground level. Cloudy nighttime skies hamper longwave outgoing radiation.

Nocturnal hours: Skies will be heavily overcast, but it will remain dry. Tuesday daytime: Heavily overcast and foggy, reduced visibility, increasingly wet. Below 1400-1100 m initially rainfall. All in all, 10 cm of fresh snow anticipated.. At 2000 m: -1 degree. Light westerly winds.

Wednesday will bring snowfall down to low lying areas. Depending on the amounts, avalanche danger levels could increase.
